EE Fifth-Graders Create Dignity Act Training Videos
Friday, July 1, 2016
Elmcrest Elementary students know the importance of a safe learning environment, so students in Lynn Brussel, Lisa Donardo and Dorie Rector’s fifth-grade classes wanted to share that knowledge with their fellow students and teachers.
Each class produced an anti-bullying video as part of the OCM BOCES Youth Development Department’s video contest. Students were asked to produce a three to five minute video to inform others about the Dignity for All Student Act and motivate them to improve school climate. The goal is to show that by creating a better school environment, students will be able to learn and focus rather than fear being discriminated against or verbally and physically harassed.
The video created by Brussel’s fifth-graders was selected as one of the contest winners and will now help Central New York students and teachers learn more about DASA. It was set to the Sara Bareilles song Brave and focused on students being individuals and independent.
Any OCM BOCES school will now have access to the video through a password-protected page on the Youth Development Department’s Web site. Schools will have the opportunity to show the video for training purposes.
